Yea! You have to remember this was before the traction control nannies, so diff locks were the only thing to help get you moving and mitigate slippage in low traction situations. Older Audis will even have a center diff lock, and a front diff lock. 95 was the last year diff locks were used on the S6.

My S4 fun in the snow. When we got to that lot the snow was 2 feet deep. This was thirty minutes before the GWB got shut down.
